Real Madrid played their last game of 2024 last night as they faced Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Merengues put in a highly entertaining performance in this game and came out victorious with a 4-2 scoreline.

All of their starting forwards, Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo Goes, and Brahim Diaz, got a goal apiece to their names, while Federico Valverde also contributed with a stunner from the midfield.

The right-back Lucas Vazquez also stood out for his side and contributed with an assist. However, Kylian Mbappe was the brightest star on the night, and one would not be very wrong to claim that this was the best performance from the Frenchman since his move to Real Madrid last summer.

It was Mbappe’s goal that opened the floodgates for the Merengues in this game. The Frenchman scored a wonderful goal from outside the box 10 minutes into the game to give his side an early lead.

He remained quite dangerous throughout the game and put his build-up skills on display as he put an excellent ball on a platter for Brahim Diaz to score the 4th goal for his side in the second half.

Beyond these direct goal contributions, Sofascore statistics show that the French World Cup winner also recorded an 85% pass completion rate, as he completed 29 of his 34 attempted passes.

He also gave 5 key passes in the game, and once again repeated his feat of scoring, assisting, and providing 5 key passes in a single game from the match against Espanyol. Mbappe remains the only Real Madrid player to reach these figures this season. Furthermore, he also created 2 big chances and completed 3 of his attempted 4 long balls.

There were also some areas where improvement was still visibly needed, as he won only 1 of his 5 ground duels and only 1 of his 3 attempted dribbles were successful. He was also flagged for offside twice in this game, and he might need some more time to get over this lingering issue.

But despite these issues, it is quite clear that the Frenchman is once again getting back to his best level after a rather slow first half of the season. He himself admitted that he had reached the lowest point in the game against Athletic Club, in which he missed a penalty, and was unable to generate much danger.

Hopefully, he will continue to build upon this performance against Sevilla, and show the Real Madrid fans why Florentino Perez was so adamant to have him in their team for years in the second half of this season.
