Real Madrid put in one of their better displays on the pitch in their last La Liga encounter against Las Palmas. The Merengues went into this game with the chance to get the top spot, after Atletico Madrid lost to Leganes and Barcelona drew against Getafe.
The game started in the worst possible fashion for Los Blancos, as Fabio Silva scored even before a minute had passed on the clock to finish a good cross and put his side into the lead.
However, with Kylian Mbappe putting in another brilliant performance, Real Madrid had not only overturned this deficit but were 2 goals ahead with a 3-1 scoreline when the two teams went into the half-time break. Rodrygo Goes, who also put in a highly impressive shift, scored another goal in the second half and the match ended 4-1 in the Merengues’ favour.
Although he was not directly involved in any of these four goals, another player who put in an incredible display in this game was the midfielder Dani Ceballos, who continued with the fine form that he had shown in the last few months, despite having started the season quite low in the pecking order.
In this last game, he remained on the pitch for 83 minutes, and according to Sofascore statistics, made 101 total touches during that time. He helped in keeping and recycling possession with his 73 completed passes and recorded a 92% pass completion rate. 4 of his 6 attempted long balls were also accurate.
He also contributed well to the creative aspect of his team’s game, putting in 3 key passes and creating 1 big chance.
However, he was the most notable because of the tenacity he showed in his game, and Las Palmas midfielders were no match for him as he won all 11 ground duels and the 1 aerial duel that he was involved in during this game. The fact that he made no fouls on the night further highlights the extent to which he excelled in this aspect of the game.
He also made some vital defensive contributions in this game, making 5 interceptions and 7 tackles. He also blocked 1 shot on goal.
With this performance, the Spaniard once again proves his utility for this team. Carlo Ancelotti will be particularly impressed with this performance as his presence and form have allowed his Real Madrid team to thrive in the absence of stars as big as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos to some extent.
Ceballos got his reward for this performance right in the game, as Santiago Bernabeu chanted his name in the final moments of the game. Hopefully, he will continue to perform at such a high level in the coming matches as well and will help his team pave their way to the next round of UEFA Champions League tonight.
