Following a narrow victory against Leganes in the Copa Del Rey, Real Madrid headed into the Madrid derby with winning momentum and an also an eagerness to finally win their first big game of the season.
Unfortunately, in the end, both sides ended up sharing the points. However, particularly in the second half, the Los Blancos defence put in a thoroughly solid display and were well supported by the midfield.
One of the midfielders, was Dani Ceballos. The Spaniard has been a rather unexpected breath of fresh air into this side which was struggling to get things going in the first half of the season.
But now, Ceballos has come in and put on some solid displays in crucial fixtures, like he did in last night’s Madrid derby.
One of the two pivots in the side, the 28-year-old yet again showed why he deserves to start more games and should be Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice in the games ahead.
Playing 80 minutes before being substituted, according to Sofascore statistics, Ceballos completed 124 touches – the most by a player in the entire match. His level of brilliance was evident by the fact that he misplaced just a single pass throughout his time on the pitch (101/102) and had a mind blowing accuracy of 99%.
Along with that, he was responsible for 2 key passes and created 1 big chance. Ceballos completed 5/5 long balls and 3/3 dribbles he had attempted.
The former Real Betis man, was involved in 6 defensive actions – 2 interceptions, 3 tackles and 1 clearance. He also won 9/12 duels during his stay on the field.
Dani Ceballos has had a rather average time in the champions league, but it is La Liga where he has stepped up and shown what he was signed for – even if it has been 4 years since returning from the Arsenal loan spell.
Just to put into perspective his statistics in the league. The Spaniard creates 3 big chances per game and 0.9 key passes. Furthermore, an astonishing 95% passing accuracy.
Defensively, he makes 2.4 tackles per game and recovers almost 4 balls per 90 minutes. Rarely makes an error and keeps it calm and composed no matter if it’s his own half or the opposition’s.
With Lucas Vazquez ruled out of the trip to Manchester and Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouaméni starting in defence, it is almost certain that Ceballos will be in the starting lineup and will have yet another opportunity to showcase his brilliance on a crucial Champions League night.
