Chelsea have started making more moves for Argentine talent in recent windows, with Aaron Anselmino and Enzo Fernandez now both taking up spots in the first team squad.
After hoovering up the best of Brazil, it looks like our scouts are turning their eyes south, to the talent factories of Buenos Aires.
SportWitness today are reporting on claims from the Southern Cone that Chelsea are keen on another talent – Ian Subiabre from River Plate. In fact, things have gone pretty far. Former Argentina international Claudio Caniggia is now the 18 year old’s agent, and has already travelled to London for talk with the Blues, according to this report.
Young Subiabre is still very fresh on the scene. He’s got a few appearances for his club, but has done more work impressing the outside world playing for Argentina at the U20 Championship in Venezuela, where his country finished as runners up and the winger scored 3 goals – the same number as fellow Blue Deivid Washington.

Despite the fact that our scouts have already watched him, the sources are keen to play down any imminent move:
“The interest is there, but speaking of a possible transfer, this is absolutely in its infancy,” journalist Gustavo Yarroch wrote for River Plate fan site Soy de Millo.
“There remains a very long stretch for the operation to be completed. River today are not interested in selling him and, if necessary, the leaders [have] set the termination clause of €30m.”
Subiabre compared himself to countryman Julian Alvarez – a finisher and an explosive player finding spaces around the box to get shots off. Of course he’s a long way off from the transfer happening, let alone him finding his way to our first team, but we like the idea already.
