FC Barcelona continued their victorious run in the UEFA Champions League, overcoming a difficult challenge from Borussia Dortmund with a 3-2 win last night.
With this victory, the Blaugranes are now second in their UCL League phase table, behind only Liverpool, and on course for direct qualification to the Round of 16.
Lamine Yamal was once again key for Hansi Flick’s side, as he provided an assist for Ferran Torres’ winning goal, and also created several chances throughout the match.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also remained busy after the final whistle as he had to undergo a doping test and also spoke to the media.
The Barcelona youngster highlighted his team’s ability to win in a difficult stadium after the game:
“It was a very difficult field; the team performed very well until the end. We had clear chances and got ahead twice, but they equalized both times. In the end, we had to resist, and when the opportunity arose, we scored.”
The La Masia graduate also highlighted how his team approached the end of the game differently compared to their performance against Real Betis. He emphasized that the team has learned from their mistakes in Seville and successfully managed to hold on to their lead this time.
“After the game against Betis, it was something we needed to learn. When we brought Ferri on, we should have known how to defend the result, and today we were able to do it.”
Yamal expressed his happiness for his teammate Ferran Torres getting a brace in this game despite coming on from the bench:
“We understand each other very well. At the Benito Villamarín, it was also a very similar action. I’m happy for him and his two goals.”
The youngster could have got another assist right at the start of the game as he provided Raphinha with an excellent outside-of-the-boot pass that the Brazilian was unable to finish. Yamal talked about his ability to pull off these types of passes:
“I told Rafa he had it (laughs). It’s a move that’s working very well for me, and I’ll keep doing it as long as it helps the team. It’s something natural; it’s not like I’m always practicing it during training.”
Barcelona fans will definitely be looking forward to seeing more such actions from Yamal going forward. But last night, he helped his team get the job done, and hopefully, this will also be the case in the upcoming league games against Leganes and Atletico Madrid.
