Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is reportedly eager to stay at the club and force his way into the team despite suggestions he could be on the move this summer.
Since his arrival at United in September 2023, Bayindir has mostly deputised n.o 1 Andre Onana, with most of his appearances coming in cup competitions.
Last term, he made just one appearance – an FA Cup meeting against Newport County while Onana was away with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ruben Amorim has utilised Bayindir slightly more, with the Turkey international playing six games so far this term across the Carabao Cup, Europa League and the FA Cup. He has yet to get a taste of Premier League action.
Bayindir took the acclaim in January as a 10-man United side beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup. He denied Martin Odegaard from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute and also kept out a low effort from Kai Havertz in the penalty shootout.
The 26-year-old has not featured in United’s matchday squads for the past few weeks due to injury.
There have been suggestions that Bayindir could leave United this summer in search of regular first-team minutes elsewhere. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that the shot-stopper could seek a transfer to boost his chances of playing in the 2026 World Cup.
Now, Turkish-Football report that Bayindir is indeed attracting interest from Premier League and Super Lig clubs but his priority is still staying at Old Trafford.
“Altay Bayindir has reiterated his commitment to the club, expressing his desire to secure more playing time following his recovery from injury sources revealed to Turkish-Football.”
“Bayindir acknowledges the inherent competition within a club like Manchester United and asserts he is prepared to face the challenge.”
The report adds, “Speculation regarding potential transfers to other Premier League clubs has circulated, but Bayindir’s stance is unwavering. He understands that rumors are part of the game, but his priority is to find success at Manchester United. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for such a prominent club and is committed to demonstrating his worth.”
Turkish-football further note that Bayindir is working hard to recover from his injury and become available for selection once again.
Amidst Onana’s poor form and mistake-strewn performances, there is a real chance for Bayindir to finally break into the team and make the starting goalkeeper spot his own.
It’s up to him to take the opportunity when it inevitably arrives. United are back in action on Thursday when they go away to Spain to face Real Sociedad in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
