Manchester United have had an underwhelming campaign, but there has been progress made over the past couple of weeks.

Under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Red Devils were unbeaten in the four games leading to the international break.

The onus will be on continuing the momentum under new boss Ruben Amorim later this month.

The Sun claims that Amorim is prepared to rely heavily on Mason Mount, who has become a forgotten figure.

The Englishman has suffered numerous injuries since his move from Chelsea last year, which have limited his playing time.

However, he has returned to full team training just in time and could have a pivotal role to play in the front three under Amorim.

The 2020/21 Champions League winner has been tipped to operate as one of the inverting wingers in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

Amorim could get the best out of Mount

The Chelsea graduate enjoyed the best phase of his career under Thomas Tuchel, who played with a similar 3-4-2-1 set-up at the Blues.

Mount was impressive cutting inside from the left wing into the number 10 role. He managed nine goals and nine assists in the 2020/21 season.

The £29 million-rated ace fared much better in the next campaign. He bagged 13 goals and 16 assists playing in an identical formation.

Amorim will have analysed the midfielder’s success with the Blues and he could partner him with Bruno Fernandes going forward.

Amorim’s arrival could be a blessing in disguise for Mount, who had seemingly lost his way under Ten Hag due to his injury woes.

He still needs to stay unscathed in order to make the most of the opportunities handed to him.
