Manchester United’s rotten luck with injuries is no longer limited to the senior team.

Dan Gore, who joined Rotherham United on loan last month, is the latest casualty in a series of unfortunate events.

Manchester Evening News report that Gore has “returned to United to receive treatment for a foot injury”.

The 20-year-old “is believed to have suffered a hairline foot fracture”.

Gore made an impressive debut for Rotherham, coming on as a substitute against Birmingham City after an injury to Mallik Wilks.

He wasted no time in making an impact, setting up the Millers’ only goal in a 2-1 defeat with a brilliant cross from the left.

The youngster delivered a fantastic cross from the left flank to Sam Nomber who headed it home.

In a major twist, Gore ruled himself out of the next clash due to a foot injury.

He will now undergo rehabilitation at Carrington and is “expected to be out of action for around a month”.

Gore could return to Rotherham but only once he is ready to train with his new club.

This injury setback is a bitter blow for the talented youngster, who has been plagued by misfortune over the past 12-15 months.

He was loaned out to Port Vale in January 2023 but his time there was cut short after just one appearance due to an injury.

A freak shoulder injury during the summer delayed his start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Gore returned to fitness late in 2024 and earned a loan move with the hope to get a taste of first-team football.

The promising midfielder made his senior debut for United under Erik ten Hag against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in September 2023.

He later made his Premier League bow against Aston Villa before moving to Port Vale.

Once viewed as ahead of Toby Collyer in the pecking order, his career has been severely hampered by injuries.

There is no doubt that he is an extremely talented midfielder who plays with intensity.

Manager Ruben Amorim prefers players to play with urgency and Gore ticks that box.

However, he needs to stay fit and have a solid few months of first-team football elsewhere before knocking Amorim’s door.

United are short of options in the midfield after injuries to Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer.

Amorim was forced to hand Casemiro his first start of 2025 in the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
