Cody Gakpo is fit and ready to return to the Liverpool squad for their Champions League round of 16 second leg against PSG, boss Arne Slot has confirmed.
Gakpo missed the Reds’ 1-0 win over PSG in their first-leg clash as well as his side’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Southampton on Saturday.
But having trained with the team, Slot says he is able to be involved against PSG.
“Yeah, he will be in the squad,” Slot said ahead of the game.
“Today he was training for the first time.”
Gakpo has been in fine form this season, scoring 16 goals in 38 games in all competitions this season.
The Reds will still remain without defenders Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez for the game with PSG, however, with both recovering from thigh injuries.
PSG boss Luis Enrique said his side have “nothing to lose” ahead of the clash and responding to those comments, Slot said: “They have a game of football to lose and us as well.
“I think they’ve been in this stage of the tournament for many years now. I think last season they reached the semi-final and we were not even at this stage last season in the Champions League and the season before this was the round we were knocked out.
“I wasn’t surprised at all about their performance (in the first leg). They’ve impressed me a lot. Before we played that game I watched many games of them because we had a bit more time than normal.
“I was really impressed by the intensity we play at, the team cohesion, the rotations in midfield.
“They are such a complete team. I think we experienced this last Wednesday.
“Some people say we played poorly. I don’t agree. I think they played tremendously well and I don’t think we’ve played a team this season that combined that much quality with that much intensity, but I do believe we can play better.”
