Arsenal’s slim hopes of winning the Premier League took a huge hit as they were held to a draw by Everton.
The first 30 minutes were a scrappy affair, but the visitors made the breakthrough on 34 minutes with the first real shot on target of the game.
Leandro Trossard finished off a counter-attack coolly after a perfect pass from Raheem Sterling.
Trossard had a chance to grab another right before half-time, but his toe-poked shot was scrambled clear by Jordan Pickford, while Declan Rice’s follow-up was blocked.
Everton levelled things up just after the break when they were awarded a penalty.
Myles Lewis-Skelly fouled Jack Harrison inside the box, and Iliman Ndiaye confidently slotted the spot-kick home.
The Toffees came out with more energy after a poor first half, and Abdoulaye Doucoure forced David Raya into a low, sharp save. At the other end, Rice’s powerful free-kick was pushed away by England teammate Pickford.
Neither team could find a winner, and Everton’s draw was a boost to local rivals Liverpool, who will now be even more confident of securing the title.
That result means leaders Liverpool now need just 11 points from their remaining eight games – starting with Fulham on Sunday – to seal the title.
