The draw for the Champions League play-offs was made this Friday at noon. While AS Monaco could only come up against PSG or Benfica, it was ultimately the Portuguese club against whom they were drawn.
AS Monaco now knows its opponent for the Champions League play-offs. Two days after their last match of the league phase, the draw was thus made this Friday. And while the Rouge et Blanc, 17th at the end of the first round, could only be drawn against PSG, 15th, or Benfica, 16th, it is the Portuguese club that will be their opponent.
And there is no doubt that the players of the Principality club will be seeking revenge, just like Breel Embolo during this double-legged tie as the two teams have already crossed paths on the fifth matchday of the competition. A man down from shortly before the hour, they had indeed been heroic but would lose 3-2 after conceding in the final minutes at the Stade Louis-II.
The Fontvieille stadium, which will also be the venue for the first leg, will take place on Tuesday 11 or Wednesday 12 February, while the return leg will be a week later at the Estádio da Luz stadium. Finally, it should be noted that this will be the fourteenth duel against a Portuguese team in the Club’s history, with a record of 2 wins, 3 draws and 8 losses.
