Barcelona’s agreement with Nike over a sponsorship with renewed terms opens the door to new signings once more, and while the Blaugrana must still operate with caution, they will no longer be paralyzed on the transfer front.

One of the primary positions the administration hope to improve in the coming summer window, thus, is the goalkeeping position where Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s injury earlier this season left the squad with a gaping hole.

Inaki Pena has done decently as a stand-in, but it is clear that he is far from being able to fill in as a regular starter. Barcelona, thus, have their eyes on the market for a first-choice long-term goalkeeper signing.

The option in France

As relayed in a recent update by SPORT, Lucas Chevalier who has been impressing with Lille this season has emerged as a serious option for the Blaugrana next summer.

The player is happy at the French club and considers them one of Europe’s top sides but admitted in a recent interview that they is still a way further up the ladder to a more superior outfit.

“We are in a very large nation, all the players play in very large European clubs. Lille is a very big European club, but there are steps above.”

“It’s true that when you play in very big clubs, you do bigger shows. And they look at you more, you have more demands,” he added.

At just 23 years of age, the youngster is already a regular starter in Ligue 1 and averages just one goal conceded per game in the competition. He has also overseen five clean sheets in that duration and completes 71% of his passes.

Chevalier has been called up to the French national team for the first time in the ongoing international break and it is clear that he is seen as one of the country’s best talents. In fact, several European giants have their eyes on his profile.

As it stands, his current contract with Lille runs until 2027 and he is valued at about €25 million. Several Premier League sides are interested in his signing and it is going to be a long summer for him next June.

Barcelona, for their part, have identified other options if they cannot sign Chevalier with Diogo Costa and Marcin Bulka being spoken of.
