SC Bastia head coach Benoît Tavenot risks a six-month ban for violent conduct, L’Equipe understands. Benoît Tavenot lost his temper on Friday night during Bastia’s Ligue 2 home game against Pau. The visitors were 1-0 up when the home side were handed a throw-in with 15 minutes to spare. Pau right-back Jordy Gaspar retained the ball, and Tavenot dragged Gaspar to the ground. The Bastia head coach was logically given his marching orders by the referee.
In the aftermath of the incident, Tavenot pleaded guilty. “I am 48 and I can’t react like this. It’s totally my fault.” L’Equipe understands that the league’s Disciplinary Committee will convene on Wednesday to analyze the incident. Tavenot’s tantrums may fall under the French FA’s article 13.1 regarding acts of violent conduct. Tavenot risks a six-month ban. When asked by L’Equipe whether or not Bastia could decide to terminate his contract, Tavenot said he’d understand a decision this final. “In a normal company, what I did can be sanctioned by a dismissal. I have not yet spoken to my president but, if I were him, I would ask myself the question.
