Chelsea have the lead against Leicester at home after Marc Cucurella fired in a neat finish across goal from outside the box.

BBC Sport reporter Nizaar Kinsella is at Stamford Bridge, and he noted how the Blues supporters had responded to the long-haired wind up merchant getting an impressive 5th goal in the campaign.

“Marc Cucurella has netted his fifth goal of the season and is being serenaded by the home supporters at Stamford Bridge. Chants of “Cucurella, he drinks Estrella” are going around the stadium in west London,” the BBC reporter wrote.

“It’s been some journey from when he was considered by some an expensive flop and had been booed by his own fans in the first season.”

Arriving with a big price tag from Brighton made it difficult for Cucurella, who also had an unfortunate association with Graham Potter, who arrived soon after. It’s made his early career at Stamford Bridge tough, but important goals like this one and improved performances all around have now won over a lot of the home support.

Despite this progress, not everyone is convinced. Certainly the “journey” Kinsella talks about isn’t over just yet for the Spain international.

It’s fair to say that there is still plenty of division amongst fans about Cucurella. It’s actually hard to remember a player who simultaneously has some people saying he’s the best in the league in his position and others saying he’s not good enough.

In fact, it reminds us a bit of our last divisive left back, Marcos Alonso. He could always be relied upon for a goal or assist in a big moment, but he was suspect defensively and never convinced some parts of the fanbase.
