Interesting to read through these BBC Sport comments, following on from Newcastle United losing to Fulham.

United now with ten wins from their last twelve games.

Alternatively, two defeats in their last three.

The comments from neutrals especially telling…

A lot of it different to what Newcastle United fans had come to expect from the BBC Sport ‘neutrals’.

The BBC Sport comments from neutrals in the past had been overwhelmingly a catalogue of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters.

Particularly stuff about the Newcastle United owners and the media-inspired pile-ons that NUFC fans have become used to, when blamed for who now owns their club.

On this occasion the politics (almost…) entirely absent, concentrating on matters on the pitch.

The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals, Fulham fans and the odd Newcastle United supporter also contributing:

‘It’s all about the ability of the opposition Manager to plan for the “usual Howe setup”, use tactics to counter it and take the chances NUFC present to all teams. All the while knowing Howe won’t be able to adapt. Silva has always been a better Manager than Howe.’

‘Maybe you should apply for the Manager’s job?’

‘The league positions (facts) do not agree with your opinion. Howe is a very good manager.’

‘Ten wins in twelve. Such a terrible run of form, eh?’

‘You are wrong. Howe took a team from the brink of the national league to the Premier league, then a team from bottom to a fourth and seventh place finish. Howe has managed in the Champions League. Remind me, what qualifies Silva to be better than Howe. Prior to this season, Fulham hadn’t beat Newcastle in ten years. Fulham are below Newcastle in the league… So your comment is rubbish.’

‘Mate Newcastle anit know better than Fulham in fact football standards we out played u in every department, sour grapes that r bias.’

‘Yeah, Fulham were better today. Deserved their win. But you sound a bit off so thanks for giving us 9 seasons of points.’

‘Opposition fans always overreact when they pose to Fulham, as if Fulham are a rubbish team. We’ve got a strong squad and Sulva is a fantastic manager.’

‘The boos at full time just demonstrate how entitled many Newcastle fans are.’

‘This is why I am glad I don’t support a team (rare i know). The sort of fan mentality that boos your team when they’re 5th in the league, in what is a very competitive division. It’s not like Newcastle are 15th and just lost to Ipswich. Fulham are a good side. Ridiculous. Just ridiculous.’

‘Believe it or not, the behaviour you described isn’t mandatory, and Newcastle have some pretty awful fans

Don’t get me wrong, they should be booing, but for very different reasons.’

‘I was there. The boos were for the referee, not our own players. We’re not like some other clubs…’

‘Newcastle will bounce back. Howe is a very good manager.’

‘The booing was for the poor ref display, not the team.’

‘Has Howe ever won anything or managed a top club personally think he’s taken the mag’s far has he can.’

‘HOGWASH – if Silva was always better than Eddie then we wouldn’t have done the double over Fulham the previous two seasons nor beaten them in the FA Cup last season.

Stop embarrassing yourself – you know nowt about football.’

‘Always good to see Saudi FC lose.’

‘Well, I wasn’t expecting THAT! We couldn’t beat Man U at home, and we go to the Toon and get a win! I seriously thought we were going to get tonked. Happy Fulham fan.’

‘More away joy for Fulham. Why bother with our inflated prices at home. Great away support again. COYW.’

‘I have not felt such positivity since 2010 – I hope Silva has further plans with Fulham because I get the feeling that with the right support from the owners he could take us anywhere.’

‘(Villa fan) Pathetic performance,’

‘As a Fulham fan it’s a great result and a equally annoying one as well.how can the same team do the double over Newcastle and be the only team to beat Forest at there gaff but not beat Southampton at home and not beat Ipswich home or away.still onward and upward UTF.’

To be fair we beat Man U and Tottenham too, so it’s not just better clubs. Maybe “glamour” clubs?

As the table stands the only teams to have beaten Newcastle in any competition this season outside the top half are Brentford in 11th and West Ham in 14th.

On a day that Wolves (18th up to 17th) beat one of our supposed Champions League rivals, isn’t that a positive indicator?’

‘What is the point of Paul Mitchell and his army of scouts?’

‘Lots of grumbling about recruitment (that probably wouldn’t be there if we were winning these games). Truth is there isn’t quality out there that will improve our squad unless we pay ridiculous money, which would probably make sales of star players in the future inevitable.

If we can pick up a bargain, great. Otherwise do what we do best, sign absolute gems in the summer.’

‘Not sure why people think every team should beat Fulham, whenever I see them play they always look a decent well organised team that can upset bigger and better teams on their day.’

‘I just love the PL this year. Apart from Liverpool who are a class apart, anyone can beat anyone. NU are in good nick and have good players but as Fulham proved today, they have good players too. Many teams in this league have players that can hurt the opposition. Makes for great viewing, even if the so called big 6 don’t like it.’

‘Perhaps too many haven’t seen how well Fulham have steadily improved under Silva?

They certainly have and the result will not have shocked anybody that much.’

‘They found a way to neutralise Joelinton and that kind of cascaded through the team.

If Newcastle had been anything close to clinical it could have been 3-0 before Fulham shoved their first man over. But they stuck to their plan, rode their luck and got their reward.’
