Bernardo Silva has delivered an update on his Manchester City future whilst reflecting on his first season at the Etihad Stadium in a new interview.
The Portugal international has been one of Pep Guardiola’s most successful signings at City, winning six Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, a UEFA Champions League and a UEFA Super Cup since joining from AS Monaco in 2017.
Silva has made 394 competitive appearances for the four-in-a-row Premier League champions and has been a mainstay for Guardiola in his nine-year tenure at the club.
Since 2020, the Lisbon-born midfielder has been linked with a possible Manchester City exit owing to his long-standing desire to move closer to his homeland.
Barcelona have held an interest in Silva for years but their financial restraints have denied them the chance to seriously pursue the Manchester City man.
Pep Guardiola has famously said in the past that whilst he remains Manchester City manager, Silva will not leave the club – which reflects the relationship between the pair and how crucial Silva has been for Guardiola and the way he wants City to play.
However, after a stop-start, sobering season that will see Manchester City miss out on winning the Premier League for the first time in five seasons, changes are coming in the summer and that could well see Silva depart the club.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has indicated in recent weeks that Silva’s future is up in the air and his fate could swing either way as Manchester City look to rebuild ahead of next season as they await the arrival of incoming sporting director Hugo Viana.
However, in a new interview posted on Manchester City’s YouTube channel, Silva has seemingly dropped a major hint on his future at the Etihad Stadium.
Reflecting on his trophy-laden spell in Manchester and whether he could have imagined winning as much as he has when he first arrived in England in 2017, the Portuguese said: “Of course not, I’m going to be honest.
“I wanted to win a Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, but never thought, specifically, that in seven years I’d win six Premier Leagues. The journey has been crazy and hopefully it doesn’t stop here.”
It remains to be seen how the coming months shape up Silva’s future at Manchester City, with the midfielder’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium running till 2026.
