Arnór Sigurðsson is looking likely to be leaving Blackburn Rovers soon, as John Eustace has left him out of his 25-man Championship squad.

Blackburn Rovers have left Arnor Sigurdsson out of their 25-man Championship squad. The Icelandic midfielder has made just five league appearances this season.

The 25-year-old hasn't featured for Rovers since October, thanks to a string of injuries that have kept him sidelined.

Despite these repeated injuries, Sigurdsson is yet to start for Blackburn this season. During his five substitute appearances for John Eustace's side, the midfielder has scored a single goal but now finds himself out of the 25-man Championship squad.

With his contract expiring in the summer, Sigurdsson's Blackburn career looks all but over, as it's highly unlikely he'll be offered an extension to his current deal.

This latest report has come from Elliott Jackson, who has suggested that the Iceland international will continue to train with his current club before seeking out a move elsewhere in Europe.

The former Premier League champions have sprung quite a surprise in the Championship this season, sitting inside the play-off places after barely escaping relegation last term. This is a testament to what an incredible manager Eustace is, as he's managed to bring joy back to Ewood Park.

January was very busy for the Lancashire club, as six new senior players arrived at the club in a bid to maintain their play-off hopes. However, this filled up the club's remaining registration slots quickly, leading to Eustace deciding to leave Sigurdsson out of Blackburn's 25-man squad.

The latest reports suggest that due to injuries and a lack of match fitness, the Rovers boss has been left with little choice but to deregister the 25-year-old to make room to facilitate his new signings. With the transfer window now shut, Sigurdsson's only options for a move away are in America or Europe, which he will hope to pursue.

Reports from Jackson also suggest that the midfield maestro will continue to train with his current club, whilst trying to find a move to a club overseas. Whilst this will come as gutting news for Sigurdsson, he will be hopeful he can find a new opportunity elsewhere quickly.

Eustace feels sympathy for Sigurdsson after a "difficult decision"

In his latest press conference, Eustace shared his thoughts on the decision to deregister Sigurdsson. The 45-year-old told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It was a very difficult decision, we brought in players and that took us over the number we can have in the squad.

"With Siggy and his injury situation, it was a very difficult decision. He has a fantastic attitude. He was a match-winner at the start of the season against Oxford and I have been very excited to get him back and hope he could win more matches for us.

"I think considering his fitness and where he's at, the window is still open in Europe and America. It gives him an opportunity to get some game time and more than we could've perhaps offered him.

"I wish him all the best. It wasn't guaranteed he'd have left this month even if he'd been fit. We had to take a look at things with the three players coming in on deadline day it took number over."

Leaving the Icelandic midfielder out of his squad was a tough decision for Eustace, but one that was necessary given the nature of Blackburn's transfer window. Now, both the club and the player will be hoping an opportunity arises for Sigurdsson sooner rather than later.
