Blackburn Rovers are weighing up an audacious move to bring Crystal Palace's Jeffrey Schlupp to Ewood Park, with a potential loan move being mooted.

That's according to Alan Nixon, who claims that a temporary deal is being discussed ahead of what could be a permanent exit in the summer, with Schlupp firmly out of favour at Selhurst Park and out of contract come the season's end.

The East Lancashire outfit are in the market for reinforcements in their quest to finally break into the top six, and Schlupp seems like he would be an astute signing who would help them do so.

Blackburn currently sit on the fringes of the top six after an indifferent run of form over the festive period, one which ended with a humiliating home defeat to bitter rivals Burnley, in which their lack of squad depth was exposed amid a growing injury list.

John Eustace wants to add Jeffrey Schlupp to Blackburn Rovers squad in January

Rovers boss John Eustace is keen to bring Schlupp to Ewood Park in January to bolster his side's paper-thin squad at present, and his versatility is something that really appeals.

Schlupp can play a host of positions, with left back, left midfield or centre midfield covered so he would be a perfect acquisition for a Rovers side who look light in most areas of the pitch.

The 32-year-old's Palace deal is up in the summer, but even so, Nixon claims that a loan deal could happen in January, which could pave the way to a permanent summer transfer.

Although Schlupp has played 11 times for Palace in the Premier League this season, all of his appearances have been off the bench, while of late, he's mainly been an unused substitute, so a move to get some first team football could appeal to him.

Blackburn Rovers have Ryan Kent option if Jeffrey Schlupp deal can't be done

According to Nixon, Rovers could make a move for free agent Ryan Kent if they can't land Schlupp, but the fact the Ghanaian can play in more than one position makes him a far more attractive prospect for Eustace.

Although it's over 10 years since Schlupp last played in the Championship, he has a promotion under his belt, and that experience could be key in helping Rovers finally make the jump into the top six.

They've come close in recent years, but have always fallen just shy of the line, but Eustace is determined to make sure that won't happen again and the addition of Schlupp would certainly aid that quest.
