Borussia Dortmund ended their six-game losing streak away from home with a relatively comfortable 3-0 win over Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.
Goals from Jamie Gittens, Ramy Bensebaini, and Serhou Guirassy gave Borussia Dortmund all three points as they claimed a 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday evening. The win also lifted the Black and Yellows up to fourth place in the Champions League standings with three games left to be played in the league phase.
It was a dominant performance from Borussia Dortmund, who were on top from the get go and continued their impressive run of form in the Champions League, where they have won four of their five matches.
As expected, Nuri Sahin did not make any major tweaks to his starting XI with Pascal Groß coming into the team in place of Julian Ryerson in the only change from the side that dispatched SC Freiburg 4-0. Serhou Guirassy and Emre Can both started on the bench on their return to the squad.
Borussia Dortmund dominated proceedings from the get go, enjoying 70% of the ball in the first-half. Ramy Bensebaini was denied by the crossbar early on, before Dinamo Zagreb came close to scoring at the end of a well crafted move.
Mid-way through the first-half, it was Donyell Malen’s turn to be denied by the woodwork. The Dutchman then forced a stunning save from the Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper.
Moments later, Jamie Gittens opened the scoring for Borussia Dortmund. Continuing his excellent run of form in the Champions League, the talented winger found the top corner with a sublime finish from the edge of the box.
Bensebaini finally got his well deserved goal in the 57th minute, heading home from a Pascal Groß corner to double Borussia Dortmund’s lead.
Serhou Guirassy then came off the bench and added a third late in the game to cap off an impressive away win for BVB.
The win will give Borussia Dortmund plenty of confidence ahead of this weekend’s Der Klassiker. While Bayern Munich will give Nuri Sahin’s side a much tougher test, BVB will fancy their chances of going toe to toe with their rivals.
