A Brentford XI beat Primeira Liga side Gil Vicente 1-0 at Robert Rowan Performance Centre on Friday afternoon.

In a game that featured first-team players Rico Henry, Sepp van den Berg, Paris Maghoma and Ji-soo Kim, it was Brentford B forward Romelle Donovan who scored from 30 yards to give the home side the win.

The fixture followed Thursday's announcement that a strategic club partnership has been agreed between the two clubs aimed at sharing knowledge and improving player development and performance.

Van den Berg, Maghoma and Ji-soo played the full match, while Henry continued his return from injury with another 45 minutes following his recent appearance for the B team in a 4-3 victory over Bristol City Under-21s.

On 30 minutes, Donovan broke the deadlock, cutting in from the right side and burying a shot from distance into the top corner of the net, giving Gil Vicente's keeper no chance.

Both teams had periods of controlled possession during the second half but there was little in the way of goalmouth action.

The away side probed in the latter stages but Brentford stood firm to secure a narrow victory.
