With Ipswich Town's relegation back to the Championship confirmed, speculation regarding the long-term future of prized assets at Portman Road is already rife.

After performing remarkably well in the second-tier last term against Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton in one of the most-compelling automatic promotion races seen for many a year, the Tractor Boys have been unable to consolidate back in the Premier League after a previous 22-year hiatus.

Similarly to Luton Town last season, Kieran McKenna's side recruited plenty of stars from the EFL as well as a sprinkling of continental signings with the hope of finishing above the relegation trap door. And, despite failing to do so, young stars such as Omari Hutchinson and top scorer, Liam Delap have seen their respective stocks only rise higher regardless of Town's collective shortcomings.

The upcoming transfer window will be crucial at Portman Road, with Ipswich now entering unchartered territory as one of the favourites for promotion compared to their array of previous seasons at Championship level.

And, with a major revelation concerning the aforementioned Hutchinson emerging in recent days, Football League World asked our resident Ipswich fan pundit, Alex Wilkin, whether he can see the England Under-21's eight-figure release clause being triggered by a side vying for a European spot.

Premier League clubs sent "big gamble" warning on Omari Hutchinson

After initially joining on loan from Chelsea last season, the young winger lit up the Championship in McKenna's free-scoring system, finding the back of the net 10 times and laying on five assists as the Blues finished second on 96 points.

Unsurprisingly, one of McKenna's first courses of action was to make his stay in East Anglia permanent, and this was achieved through a club-record fee which could rise as high as £22.5m on a five-year deal from the West London club.

However, despite having such a high ceiling, Town's need to be more astute defensively has meant Hutchinson hasn't been as effective and has had to adjust to featuring in a variety of roles compared to his natural right-wing position.

Regardless, it was recently revealed by Football Insider that the 21-year-old has a £35m relegation release clause which has alerted many potential suitors, with CaughtOffside also reporting that Leeds United, Burnley, West Ham United and Aston Villa are all keeping tabs on his situation.

Wilkin was quick to talk up Hutchinson's future potential, and also namedropped three further Premier League clubs who could benefit massively from a deal if they were to part with the aforementioned eight-figure sum.

"Omari's an interesting one," he began. "He's had a bit of a stop-start season with injuries, little knocks and being asked to play a slightly different role this year compared to last season.

"We saw him out on the right wing a lot last year, which, in my opinion, is his best position," Wilkin claimed.

"Because we wanted to be a bit more defensive in the Premier League, he switched into the central '10' role, and obviously, the amount of the ball we were going to have was going to be less as a newly-promoted team.

"I think his dribbling ability was excellent, he was picking the ball up 20 yards deeper than he was in the Premier League.

"I think in a better side, he would have been able to shine more, although his numbers weren't very good," our fan pundit added. "Some of his performances were still OK given what he had to deal with.

"You wouldn't be buying the finished product, you'd be buying someone with potential," he stated. "There's still improvement in him.

"I think he'd be an excellent fit for Crystal Palace given the way that they play. Anywhere across the front three, he's got that versatility as well.

"Maybe Nottingham Forest if they lose Hudson-Odoi or Morgan Gibbs-White, or Bournemouth. The kind of teams that are high-pressing and have the dribbling wingers in the mid-table area," he explained.

"That being said, unless there's any outgoings there, I can't see any of them going for him. A newly-promoted side is probably the other option.

"But, you only get a limited budget, and £35m for a player who's probably not the finished article yet would be a big gamble," Wilkin concluded.

£35m figure makes it a tough call for potential Omari Hutchinson suitors

As our fan pundit alluded to, it is a tough call for plenty of sides to make, although the release clause somewhat makes Ipswich powerless in this situation.

It hasn't been a smooth campaign for the former Chelsea and Arsenal man, but one in which he has still accumulated three goals and two assists in 28 top-flight appearances which, when added to his tally in the EFL, proves the potential which is there.

Some of the clubs namedropped like Palace, could potentially target a move if Eberechi Eze was to move on from Selhurst Park. Recent reports have stated that the England international is on the radar of Villa who are also monitoring Hutchinson, having enjoyed strong success with an array of signings from the EFL such as Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers - all of whom have gone on to flourish for the Three Lions.

Burnley and Leeds were also touted as potential destinations for the attacker by Lee Hendrie when the former midfielder spoke exclusively to Football League World, with fresh revelations also claiming that Daniel Farke will be presented with a £150m transfer warchest. However, splashing out on such a high fee whilst looking to better the feats of Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton this term doesn't guarantee immediate success.
