Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. has been handed a two-match suspension following an altercation with Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during their recent LaLiga clash.
The incident, which resulted in a red card for the Brazilian, has sparked discussions about his availability for the upcoming Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Mallorca.
According to the referee’s report from the match in Valencia, Vinicius was penalised for deliberately striking an opponent in the head with notable force, even though the ball was not in play.
As a result, the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF) Committee decided on a two-match ban, categorising the offence as a “light sanction.”
This classification allows the suspension to be served exclusively in La Liga fixtures, meaning it will not affect Vinicius’ participation in other competitions like the Spanish Super Cup.

The timing of this decision is significant for Real Madrid. Vinicius will miss the next two La Liga games but remains eligible for the Spanish Super Cup.
This development is undoubtedly beneficial for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, as the Brazilian forward is a crucial player in their attacking setup.
Had the offence been classified as a serious violation, carrying a suspension of four or more matches, Vinicius would have been ineligible to compete in all domestic competitions during the suspension period.
Such a scenario would have been a major setback for Real Madrid, especially with the semi-final against Mallorca looming and a potential final against Athletic Club or Barcelona on the horizon.
Interestingly, the final interpretation of the referee’s report has played a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the punishment.
By confining the suspension to LaLiga matches, the decision ensures that Real Madrid can field their star player for the prestigious Super Cup in Jeddah.
Vinicius has already travelled with the squad, and the announcement of the sanction has done little to disrupt Madrid’s preparations for the tournament.
