Jamie Carragher and Emmanuel Petit both noticed the same thing about Chelsea supporters during the win against Wolves on Monday night.

Chelsea stopped their five game winless run with a 3-1 at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke.

The win moved Chelsea back into fourth and two points ahead of Newcastle and Manchester City with a trip to the Etihad up next for the Blues on Saturday evening.

Petit and Carragher on the Chelsea crowd

Given the run Chelsea were on heading into the game there was a somewhat nervy feel around the ground, which is a big contrast to the feeling earlier in the season when the Blues were absolutely flying.

The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge has been a talking point for a number of years, and the crowd voiced their frustration as Robert Sanchez made a costly error which allowed Wolves to equalise.

The fans were in full voice as they chanted Trevoh Chalobah’s name as he was named man of the match on his first game back in a Chelsea shirt.

However, both Petit and Carragher, who were covering the game for Sky Sports felt the atmosphere inside the ground was flat.

“The atmosphere seemed flat in the stadium, maybe on the back of the run that they’re on at the moment,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

Petit added: “At home, yeah. I think the fans are more vocal away from home, supporting the team. I agree, it was a little bit quiet tonight at Stamford Bridge.”

It’s a fair point and the travelling support has been excellent this season and Maresca has talked about trying to get the same level of support in Stamford Bridge.

It’s down to the fans to make Stamford Bridge an intimidating atmosphere, and the Blues seem to play better away from home, with the club needing to improve their home form.
