22 September 1888, Celtic defeated Cowlairs 8-0 in the Scottish Cup second round. In front of 7000 supporters, Celtic took their revenge as Cowlairs had beaten the Hoops in the first ever Glasgow Exhibition Cup final.

22 September 1894, Celtic beat Rangers 5-3 in an eight-goal thriller. The Glasgow Observer recounts that, “the Scottish League match at Parkhead on Saturday between Celtic and Rangers drew an immense crowd despite the miners strike and the suspension of work in the steel and iron industries.” Working class Celts flooded the gates to watch a Divers and Cassidy double as well as a strike from Madden which saw the Celts victorious in the first derby win of the 1894/1895 season.

40 years ago today, Celtic beat St Mirren 2-1 at Love Street. The iconic moment of rewatching the highlights for this game is that Celtic are wearing there lime green shirt with dark green shorts and socks. Bring it back Adidas. McClair and Colquhoun were on target for Davie Hay’s side. Frank McAvennie responded with a late reply, but Celtic held on to secure the three points.

22 September 1990, Celtic eased past Hearts 3-0 at Celtic Park. Doug Baillie wrote in The Sunday Post, “Joe Jordan now knows why Wallace Mercer is paying him so much money to manage Hearts.” Baillie continued, “when Paul McStay’s tail is up like it is these days, he’s a joy to behold.” Joe Miller grabbed a double with Gerry Creaney glancing in the second.

23 years ago today, Celtic breezed past Aberdeen 2-0. With Celtic preparing to go head-to-head with Portuguese champions Porto on the Tuesday night in the Champions League, Martin O’Neill’s side comfortably beat the Dons thanks to goals from Henrik Larsson and Stiliyan Petrov.
