Chelsea are hoping to offload Ben Chilwell this month but nothing is imminent after some initial enquiries according to The Athletic.

The Blues were expected to be quiet but it’s now likely they will enter the market for a centre back after injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile has left them short at the back.

Outgoings are expected to be the main priority with Chelsea keen to find a solution for Carney Chukwuemeka, whilst Cesare Casadei is attracting interest from Italy.

Chilwell departure not imminent

Chilwell is another player the Blues are looking to move on and the England international has been told he can leave the club.

Enzo Maresca made it clear to the 27-year-old in pre-season that he wasn’t part of the plans, with Chilwell sent to train on his own but a move away didn’t materialise and he’s now back training with the first team.

Any departure would almost certainly see Chilwell have to reduce his wages but reports have indicated he may be unwilling to do that and Chelsea might have to pay him off.

Chilwell has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but whether any interest remains now Ruben Amorim is in charge remains to be seen.

It looks like offloading Chilwell could be a lot harder than Chelsea might have expected and The Athletic have reported that whilst the club are hoping to offload the left back nothing is imminent after some initial enquiries.

Chilwell has played just 45 minutes of football this season against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and given his wages and recent injury record he isn’t currently the most attractive proposition to clubs.

The most likely scenario likely remains a loan to a club where he can play regularly in an attempt to try and boost his transfer value and attract more suitors ahead of a permanent departure in the summer.
