Chelsea’s search for a striker this summer is well established at this point. Fabrizio Romano says the Blues are ready to spend “important money” on a new forward.

The names remain the same. We’ve followed Victor Osimhen for years at this point. But there’s always room for a new option in the mix. CaughtOffside have provided one today.

Matheus Cunha has been having an excellent season with Wolves, but having now helped fire them clear of relegation worries, has started hinting about wanting a a move away.

This report says that Chelsea, as well as a host of teams like Man U, Spurs, Newcastle and Arsenal, and all keen on bringing him in this summer.

There are so many teams looking for strikers this summer, and only so many to go around. It’s certainly not the first time.

The problem for Chelsea, as this report sees it, is that newly appointed Arsenal director of football Andrea Berta has the best relationship with Cunha, having signed him for Atletico Madrid when he worked in a similar role there.

That – as well as the fact that Arsenal are guaranteed to be in the Champions League and are just bigger trophy contenders than us right now – makes things a little tricky for Chelsea.

A €75m release clause is certainly interesting, and this report says that Wolves wouldn’t even need that much to sell, but we should be cautious that we’re not overreacting to a purple patch from the Brazilian. It would make him more expensive than Osimhen – but it may be that his wage demands are lower.

It will be very interesting to see how this interest develops as the summer gets closer, and to see which team makes their interest concrete first.
