Chelsea are more likely to listen to offers for the versatile Renato Veiga in the summer according to The Athletic.

The Blues completed a surprise €14m deal with FC Basel to sign the 21-year-old last summer, who was predominately signed to be back-up to Marc Cucurella at left back.

Chelsea also liked Veiga’s versatility given he can also play at centre back and in midfield, with the Portuguese putting in some impressive performances earlier this season.

Chelsea likely to listen to offers for Veiga

Veiga started just one Premier League game over the first half of the season, although he started all six games in the League phase of the Conference League, scoring twice.

His performances saw him make his debut for Portugal, so it came as somewhat of a surprise when he decided he wanted to leave in January.

It was reported Veiga wanted to leave in order to play regular minutes in his preferred centre back position, and he joined Italian giants Juventus on loan.

Veiga has impressed in Italy and has made ten appearances in all competitions for Juventus, with Tottenham and Brighton said to be monitoring his situation.

The Athletic have provided an update on Veiga and have reported Chelsea will likely listen to offers this summer, given Levi Colwill is viewed as first choice in his preferred left centre back position.

The Blues will be in line to make a decent profit on Veiga and it’s been reported they’ve set their asking price at around €33m.

If Chelsea sell Veiga, they will almost certainly need to bring in a back-up to Cucurella, with Ajax star Jorrel Hato linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues could also save some money and look to promote Ishe Samuels-Smith who signed a new long term contract earlier this month and is highly thought of at the club.
