FC Cincinnati superstar Lucho Acosta has completed a move to FC Dallas, the two clubs announced on Wednesday.
The Argentine has bagged 72 goals and 97 assists across 251 MLS games with D.C. United and FC Cincinnati, but his relationship with the latter was fractured this offseason after publicly stating his desire to leave the club.
After refusing to report to preseason training, the club sought after a buyer for the 30-year-old, and have now found him a new home in Dallas.
The Texas club will reportedly pay $5m plus add-ons to secure the talents of the crafty attacker.
“This is a landmark signing for FC Dallas and a statement of our commitment to building a championship-caliber team,” FC Dallas President Dan Hunt said.
“Bringing in a player of Lucho’s caliber—an MVP and proven leader—demonstrates our ambition and desire to compete at the highest level. We are thrilled to welcome him to the FC Dallas family and cannot wait to see him inspire our fans and teammates alike.”
Acosta's move away from Cincinnati now paves the way for the club to sign Portland Timbers superstar Evander, who is expected to be announced as a new FC Cincinnati player in the coming days.
