Sergio Ramos has been tipped to return to Real Madrid after Eder Militao suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury on Saturday night.

Los Blancos managed to put disheartening defeats to Barcelona and Milan to one side as they beat Osasuna 4-0 thanks to Vinicius Junior's hat-trick and Jude Bellingham's first goal of the season.

However, manager Carlo Ancelotti was dealt a major blow in central defence when Militao had to be substituted after 30 minutes with what was later confirmed to be another ACL blow for the Brazilian, who suffered the same injury 15 months ago and missed most of the 2023/24 campaign.

Madrid are already short on options in central defence with David Alaba still recovering from the same injury, with 21-year-old Raul Asencio replacing Militao while Jesus Vallejo stayed on the bench.

Now, club legend Ramos is being tipped to return to the Bernabeu. The former Spain international is currently a free agent after leaving Sevilla and Madrid icon Guti claimed the La Liga and European champions should recruit their former captain as cover.

He said: "Look at Ancelotti's worried face. Militao is a very important player who had just recovered from last year's injury, who was getting back to his best and who is leaving Madrid's defence in a tight spot. He is joined by Carvajal's injury. Alaba has had a very long injury.

"You have to go out on the market. Sergio Ramos is without a team. Right-back and centre-back. In this situation, I clearly see him, at zero cost. He comes from playing last year in Sevilla and doing well. A man who has been in the team, who was active last year. Who continues to take care of himself and who can offer those six months."

However, a return may not materialise. Ramos endured a strained relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez during the 38-year-old's final seasons at the club, one which has been described as being 'in tatters' by AS.
