A lot of the headlines surrounding tonight’s game between Hellas Verona and AC Milan concern Paulo Fonseca’s future at the club.
As Calciomercato.com recall, Fonseca’s pre-match press conference on the eve of the trip to the Stadio Bentegodi was surprisingly calm, and he once again reiterated that he does not feel at risk of being sacked.
The club have unofficially shown their support for Fonseca who they chose in the summer, but it is inevitable to think that tonight’s game could be decisive. Milan are already 14 points behind the leaders Atalanta and 8 from the Champions League zone, after the dull 0-0 home draw against Genoa.
In the event of a draw or defeat, Fonseca could be sacked as per the source. It is right to point out that Milan have not had any direct contact with other coaches at the moment, but there are naturally ideas in place.
They point in the direction of an Italian coach or one who knows Serie A. This is why Xavi – sounded out by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the spring – is an unlikely candidate at the moment, despite the reports suggesting otherwise.

There have been rumours about Roberto Mancini in recent days but the most accredited option is the one that leads to Max Allegri, with Maurizio Sarri in second place. The former Juventus coach has made it known that he is available to talk to Milan.
Not only that, but Allegri has also stated that he is ready to take over from Fonseca immediately, unlike other foreign projects that he would only consider starting in July.
