Manchester United are set to take on Tottenham Hotspur in North London, in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup later tonight.

United have won 13 major trophies since Tottenham’s last EFL Cup triumph, including this competition in the 2022/23 season.

They secured the title by defeating Newcastle United in the final, marking their first silverware under the recently dismissed manager Erik ten Hag.

The last time the Red Devils played Spurs in the League Cup was in the 2009/10 quarter-final, which ended in a 2-0 win at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men went on to lift the trophy that year, beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the final.

Similar to Ten Hag, the EFL Cup offers Amorim a strong opportunity to secure his first trophy in his debut season as United manager.

Ahead of kick-off, United have confirmed the starting XI.

Altay Bayindir gets a rare start, with Andre Onana named on the bench. Amorim has selected a three-man defence of Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez ahead of Bayindir.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have been picked to start the game in the wing-back roles.

Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen are United’s deepest-lying midfielders.

Amorim’s attacking line consists of Bruno Fernandes, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.

The players on the bench are Andre Onana, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee.

On yet another occasion, Marcus Rashford is not part of the matchday squad.

According to Manchester Evening News reporter Tyrone Marshall, Matthijs de Ligt is not part of the matchday squad due to illness. Meanwhile, Rashford is fit but remains dropped by Amorim.

Spurs vs. United kicks off at 20:00 BST.
