Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation for this summer remains a mystery.

On the one hand, you’ve got host of briefs coming from well connected journalists saying that the club are happy with the options they’ve already got on the books.

On the other hand, you’ve got persistent rumours connecting us with the likes of Mike Maignan and lots of other elite goalies.

We still aren’t sure what direction we will go – are we really happy with what we’ve got? Or is it all a smokescreen to distract from a big bid for an established stopper?

The man at the centre of all this is Djordje Petrovic. He’s on loan at Strasbourg right now, having a great season. He was solid, if not amazing, in his run in the Chelsea team last season. So what’s Chelsea’s plan? Give him another go and see how he’s improved? Sell him on for a profit? Keep him parked at Strasbourg another year? Anything seems possible, especially when you read his recent quotes:

“I am focused on finishing the season in the best way. We’ll see after what could happen this summer,” Get French Football News quoted the stopper as saying.

“It could be a very good option to stay here if Strasbourg qualify for the UEFA Champions League.”

Petrovic really has come on leaps and bounds this season – enough to convince us that Chelsea could give him another first team shot.

“I always had confidence in my ability to improve. I have progressed more than I thought [at Strasbourg], but I can still improve more between now and the end of the season,” he said in the same interview.

As well as helping them up the table, he’s also helped his own career massively with a superb campaign – but what is next, nobody knows.
