Liverpool’s emphatic 4-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield was nothing short of breathtaking. David Lynch, speaking on his YouTube channel, provided an insightful breakdown of the performance, highlighting Liverpool’s dominance from start to finish. Was this Liverpool’s best display under Arne Slot? Lynch believes it might just be. Here are five key takeaways from his analysis.

Liverpool’s control of the game was total, with Tottenham unable to lay a glove on them. Lynch described it as “one of the performances of the season,” emphasising that Liverpool had their “foot on Spurs’ throat from the very first whistle.” The Reds boasted 54 touches in the opposition box compared to Tottenham’s eight, a stat that underlines their relentless attacking intent. “Tottenham had a confidence-boosting win over Brentford coming into this, but Liverpool just blew them away from the off,” Lynch stated.
A 4-0 win can sometimes be misleading, but not in this case. Liverpool fully deserved their victory, with underlying statistics proving their superiority. Lynch pointed out the incredible disparity in expected goals (xG), stating, “Liverpool had 3.82 expected goals, Tottenham had 0.18.” The shot count (26-5) and shots on target (10-0) further illustrated Liverpool’s sheer dominance. “Rather than going into three players in this video, I actually want to delve into that aspect – the complete control and dominance that Liverpool had,” he explained.
Stepping in for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley delivered an immense performance at right-back. Lynch was full of praise for the youngster, saying, “He completely pocketed Son from start to finish.” Bradley’s defensive stats were outstanding: “Eight duels won, more than anybody else on the pitch, and two out of three tackles won.” His attacking contribution was equally impressive, with Lynch highlighting his assist for Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal as evidence of his growing influence. “Liverpool should be looking for a backup right-back, not a replacement, because Bradley should be the first choice,” Lynch argued.
Another standout performer was Dominik Szoboszlai, who put in a complete midfield display. Lynch noted, “Five chances created, five shots taken, and a composed finish for his goal.” The Hungarian midfielder has steadily improved throughout the season, and under Slot, his attacking game has reached new levels. “It was a criticism at the start of the season, but he’s getting better and better every week,” Lynch observed. Szoboszlai’s defensive work rate was also exceptional, winning three out of three tackles and seven duels.

Liverpool’s recent form has suggested that Slot’s methods are starting to take full effect. Lynch referenced comments from Feyenoord fans, stating, “Typically, Arne Slot’s teams get better in the second half of the season.” If this trend continues, Liverpool could be on course for multiple trophies. “If they keep putting in performances like this for the remainder of the season, I’m pretty sure they’re going to end up with more than one trophy,” Lynch predicted. The performance against Spurs was further proof of Slot’s growing influence, with the team displaying a level of control that has been increasing in recent weeks.
Liverpool’s 4-0 thrashing of Tottenham was a performance that will live long in the memory. From their total dominance to the emergence of young stars like Bradley and the growing influence of Szoboszlai, there were plenty of positives to take. As Lynch concluded, “It’s an exciting time to be a Liverpool supporter, with another trip to Wembley and a Premier League title charge ahead.” If this is a sign of things to come under Slot, Liverpool fans have every reason to be optimistic.
