Brighton and Hove Albion have lodged an opening bid for Olympiacos wonderkid and reported Manchester United target Charalampos Kostoulas, but it has been rejected, according to the reliable David Ornstein.
United are believed to be an interested party in Kostoulas, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents in Greek football at the moment.
The 17-year-old has made 21 top-flight appearances for Olympiacos this season, notching an impressive six goals and one assist. He also featured in eight Europa League matches, providing one assist in that period.
He primarily plays as a striker but he is versatile and can also be deployed in an attacking midfield role or on the wing.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United had made contact to explore the possibility of signing Kostoulas in the summer.
Soon after that, Olympiacos sporting director Darko Kovacevic came out, stressing that the teenager is not for sale and will not be allowed to depart in the upcoming transfer window.
In addition to United, Arsenal were also mentioned to be eyeing Kostoulas. Now, Ornstein has revealed that Brighton are also admirers of the player and even made an offer for him.
“Brighton & Hove Albion are pursuing 17-year-old Olympiacos striker Charalampos Kostoulas.”
“They have offered a fee of around £30million plus Abdallah Sima for the teenager regarded as one of the hottest young talents in Europe. Olympiacos, reluctant to lose Kostoulas, are expected to turn down the bid. They would also want a sell-on included in any deal.”
It remains to be seen whether the Seagulls will return with an improved offer or shift their focus to alternative targets. Given Brighton’s reputation for advanced recruitment and scouting strategies, their interest in Kostoulas is a strong indicator of his promising potential.
That Olympiacos are now insisting on including a sell-on clause also suggests they’ve had a change of heart and could be pursued to sanction the sale of their incredibly talented gem.
The ball is now in United’s court as they decide whether to enter the fray and challenge Brighton for Kostoulas’ signature.
