Chelsea have been dealt a blow after transfer target Mathys Tel changed his mind and decided to stay at Bayern Munich according to David Ornstein.
The January window is now into the final few days, and this is usually the stage where things start to heat up in regards to transfers.
To date Chelsea haven’t been as busy as expected, although they have now finally sold Cesare Casadei to Torino, whilst they also agreed a €15m deal with Strasbourg for Mamadou Sarr, with the 19-year-old set to join in the summer.
It’s no secret Chelsea are looking to bring in one or two new faces before Monday’s deadline day, with attack and midfield areas they are targeting.
One player the Blues had identified was Bayern’s Tel, with Chelsea holding long term interest in the 19-year-old, and they are said to have tracked him last summer as well.
Tel announced earlier this week he had taken the decision to leave Bayern, which excited Chelsea fans, and the Blues are said to have been in contact with Tel since the start of January.

However, it was reported Tel didn’t see Stamford Bridge as the ideal place for his development, but that hadn’t stopped Chelsea from giving up on the teenager.
However, in surprise news transfer expert Ornstein has reported that Tel has now performed a u-turn and decided to stay at Bayern.
He took to X.com and said:
“Mathys Tel told Tottenham he plans to stay at Bayern Munich & reassess in summer – despite battle to sign him this window. #THFC reached agreements with #FCBayern, 19yo + reps but forward then expressed wish to remain in Munich.”
