Denmark manager Brian Riemer has thrown down the gauntlet to new Manchester United signing Patrick Dorgu.
The Red Devils have been desperate for a new left wing-back with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui playing out of position all season due to Luke Shaw’s injury woes.
Tyrell Malacia has also gone out on loan to PSV Eindhoven.
Therefore, United completed a deal for Lecce wing-back Dorgu for €35 million.
The Danish international’s under 21 coach Steffen Höjer has already lavished praise on the 20 year old and claimed he has the power and technical capacity to be a success at Old Trafford and in the Premier League.
Dorgu’s senior national team coach, Brian Riemer, is also delighted with his move but has also challenged the wing-back to rise to the occasion of playing for United.
Speaking to Danish newspaper Tipsbladet he claimed, “it is a huge endorsement of Danish talent development that two of our greatest talents, Rasmus Højlund and Patrick Dorgu, are part of perhaps the world’s greatest club.”
Nonetheless, the coach did warn Dorgu that he will be judged in an entirely different way as a United player than a Lecce one.
“Patrick must know that when he goes from Lecce to Manchester United, the expectations and pressure are completely different.”
The manager did state that if he is able to handle this pressure there is a lot of upside due to the global nature of the club.
“He has also had a lot of considerations about that with his supporters. If he succeeds, the gain is also greater, because then he is on the biggest blade. He has every opportunity to take a huge step forward in his career, but it is up to him to seize the chance.”
Dorgu will be hoping to get the chance to impress his new supporters when United welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
