Paulo Dybala’s latest injury may be more serious than initially anticipated.

Interviewed by Corriere dello Sport, Dr. Simone Ripanti, an orthopedic surgeon at the San Giovanni hospital in Rome, provided some details on the injury to the semitendinosus tendon in Paulo Dybala’s left thigh.

“It will certainly not be a quick recovery. Tendon injuries, at the same degree, are more serious than muscle injuries, because tissues regenerate more slowly.”

“I don’t know if he will require surgery. I imagine he will seek further medical opinions before deciding on the most appropriate path.”

“In any case, even if conservative therapy is chosen, the one-month prognosis that I read here and there seems very optimistic to me. Patience is needed.”

“Given that certain problems are determined by many small factors that add up, the back-heel action causes an imbalance in the body because it requires a movement of the quadriceps, that is, the anterior thigh muscle, and the contribution of the flexors, that is, the posterior ones. The contrast causes a stretching of the muscles that can cause lacerations in the fibers.”

“However, Dybala was also unlucky, because injuries of this type are very rare.”
