Manchester City have seen a bid rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt for the Bundesliga side’s star forward Omar Marmoush, according to new developments.
The Premier League champions continue to eye a deal for a new attacking name to bring into Pep Guardiola’s first-team options and ensure that the Manchester City manager has enough talent at his disposal to record a top-four finish in the English top-flight this season.
Those reduced ambitions come after the club slumped to just one win in 13 matches across all competitions in November and December, with many crediting that run of form to a mixture of vast injury concerns and an overall ageing squad.
As such, there is a belief within the club that an overhaul of the first-team squad must now take place, and that work has started at the earliest opportunity with as many as four first-team signings tipped in some quarters.
But alongside the imminent arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras at the centre of defence, work remains ongoing to bolster to forward line and add much-needed goalscoring quality to Erling Haaland’s dominance.
And despite some suggestions of a deal being struck, according to the information of The Athletic’s Sebastian Stafford-Bloor and Sam Lee, Manchester City have had a bid rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt for versatile Egyptian forward, Omar Marmoush.
Sources ‘close to the deal’ have told The Athletic that City’s bid was too low but that ‘there is an expectation’ an agreement will be reached between the two sides, with other reports claiming that such a development could yet arrive this week.
It is further stated Omar Marmoush will remain in the Eintracht Frankfurt squad for their upcoming Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund on Friday night.
Marmoush has continued to excel and perform at the very highest level for Eintracht Frankfurt despite the ongoing speculation concerning his future and the lure of a move to Manchester City in the background.
In his last two games against St. Pauli and SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga, Marmoush has further added to an already-staggering Bundesliga goal contribution record by scoring twice across the two matches and providing two assists in the process.
That output over the last few days takes Marmoush’s total up to 15 goals and 10 assists in just 17 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, driving his teammates and the club as a whole towards the heights of a UEFA Champions League place for next season.
