Elena Sadiku hails training camp in Gran Canaria

Celtic FC Women are in the midst of their annual warm-weather training jaunt to Gran Canaria ahead of this Sunday’s home SWPL match against Partick Thistle at New Douglas Park.

Bang in the middle of their training-camp trip, the Ghirls also have a match to play against Spanish outfit, CD Femarguin tomorrow (Wednesday), and head coach Elena Sadiku took time out from their busy schedule to talk about the winter break.

She said: “It’s been great, I feel like the girls have been doing really good since we came back.

“There’s been a great intensity and the girls are excited for this part of the season, so the training has been really good.

“We can go away and we can be together 24/7. There’s team-building, there’s the connection of getting feedback and making best of having the players all the time.

‘It’s really nice especially as it’s a winter camp and it doesn’t feel like it’s winter over here, so it’s a great getaway just before everything starts again.’

“It means everything as the last part of the season it was so busy that we couldn’t really train, and now we have been training and we have been going through all the principles, and the players have been really, really good.

“The mood is good, the intensity has been great, and the quality has been great, so I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen so far.”

The Swedish coach also stressed the importance of having some game-time during the trip to prepare for the return to competitive action on Sunday with the visit of the Maryhill side.

She said of the game against Femarguin: “We’re going to work with our principles, we’re going to make sure that we’re ready for Sunday.

“It’s always nice to play games, that’s where you learn the most, so we are really looking forward to the game tomorrow.”
