Enzo Fernandez has revealed he’s feeling very good on a personal level after what he described as a difficult first 18 months at Chelsea.
Chelsea paid Benfica a then British record of £106m for Fernandez in January 2023 after the midfielder had starred for Argentina as they won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Fernandez shone in Graham Potter’s struggling side, but last season was a lot more difficult for him as he struggled to make an impact, and also played the majority of the campaign in pain from a hernia issue.
The 23-year-old was caught up in a racism incident after Argentina’s Copa America success in the summer and had a mixed start to the campaign.
Enzo Maresca dropped the Argentine from the side for October’s visit to Anfield and he subsequently spent four games on the bench.
However, since the November international break Fernandez has started every league game and is arguably playing the best football of his Chelsea career.

The midfielder has three goals and four assists in his last eight league games, including the important third goal against Tottenham, and he’s been thriving in a new role.
Fernandez has started to pick up dangerous positions and arrive in the box, which had previously been missing from his game.
The Argentina international has spoken about the role and admitted that on a personal level he’s feeling really good.
“I learned the position in which I had to play, over time I got the idea of what the coach wanted,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“He [Maresca] explained to me what he wanted and I was getting the concept, reading the games. There is still a long way to go.
