Everton need to bolster their forward department in the final few days of the January transfer window.
The Toffees have been heavily linked with a move for Rangers striker Hamza Igamane, but David Anderson of The Mirror has suggested that the potential move is “not happening” in this window.
This also means that Everton will have to look for options elsewhere.
According to a report from Tuttosport this week, Everton have kept Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi as an option in their list of targets.
David Moyes will be given a sum of around £33.5 million to bolster the attacking department, which is currently depleted due to injuries to several key players.
Premier League rivals West Ham United are in the race to sign Awoniyi, but the Hammers are primarily focussing on signing Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson instead.
Everton must not miss out on the opportunity to sign Awoniyi.
Forest are looking to sign an attacker in the January window, but they need to sell first. According to a report from the Daily Mail, Forest will allow Awoniyi to join another club.
The former Liverpool player has dropped behind Chris Wood in the pecking order at City Ground. He is an effective No 9 at this level but injury problems have blighted his Forest career.
The Nigerian has made only two starts in the Premier League, and 16 more appearances have come from the bench.
He is physically in his best shape and all he needs is regular game time.
Everton should look to secure a loan deal for Awoniyi with the option of making it permanent at the end of the season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has picked up an injury at the wrong time, and he could be out for a long spell on the sidelines.
Armando Broja, on loan from Chelsea, has barely featured and he is also out injured. Youssef Chermiti is also currently out injured, which means Moyes is left with Beto, who has been linked with a move to Torino, as the only recognised striker at the club.
