Everton linked with two unwanted Chelsea players – but Premier League rule is currently blocking a deal

January is here and moves are happening every day now. At Chelsea, while the potential transfers out of Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi seem to be moving fast, there’s worryingly little chatter about interest in some of our other unwanted squad players.

English pair Ben Chilwell and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have certainly had no shortage of talk about potential moves away, but very little concrete action. At this rate, a move feels far off.

But Chelsea may just have been saved by events at Everton this month. The new ownership have come in to inject some money and secure their top flight status, and they’ve also booted Sean Dyche and appointed David Moyes to help do so.

According to an exclusive in CaughtOffside, that could be very significant. The Toffees are “actively exploring the loan market” and plan to ask about both of these unwanted English Blues.

There are a few difficulties in the way – not least that Armando Broja is currently already on loan at Goodison Park. But after his recent ankle injury was assessed to keep him out for pretty much the remainder of the season, with the striker set to return to Chelsea for treatment anyway, it makes sense to cancel that deal and send either Chilwell or KDH there instead.

Chelsea happy to just minimise wage costs for 6 months

In both cases, we’d imagine Chelsea would prefer a permanent deal. But given Chilwell has already sat on the bench for 6 months and we’re getting not a penny off his vast £200,000 a week wages, we think we’re at the stage where the club will take anything that’s offered to them.

There’s not such a pressing need to sell or loan KDH, but if a club like Everton really wants him it’s easy to see a deal with Chelsea being done.
