Everyone wants to be in London! Emile Heskey transfer warning

I actually agree with a lot of what Emile Heskey has been saying about Alexander Isak, Newcastle United, the Premier League top four and Arsenal.

The former Liverpool and England striker stating that he believes the world class striker will still be at St James’ Park next season.

Emile Heskey saying that Alexander Isak is the player who can make the difference when it comes to Newcastle United establishing themselves as Premier League top four regulars.

The former player adding that if Newcastle United were to sell their star player, then it would “…show everyone that they aren’t willing to fight and start challenging the top four again.”

Emile Heskey talking to Instant Casino about Alexander Isak, Newcastle United, Premier League top four and Arsenal:

“If I was Alexander Isak, the rumours on Arsenal would make it very difficult for my head not to turn.

“It’s a huge club, not to say that Newcastle isn’t, but everyone wants to be in London!

“That said, I do think Isak will still be at Newcastle next season.

“Do they need to sell him? No.

“Their ambition is to get back amongst the elite in the Premier League and he’s that player to get them there.

“If Newcastle were to get rid of him, it’d show everyone that they aren’t willing to fight and start challenging the top four again.”

Not sure why anybody would automatically have their head turned by Arsenal…

However, the one big thing I do take issue with is Emile Heskey claiming “…everybody wants to be in London!”

It is one of those lazy things that many pundits, journalists and so on say, yet where’s the evidence???

I’m sure some players choose London clubs for certain reasons BUT most of the top players choose clubs that aren’t in London.

Why exactly would top players be desperate to be in London?

So they can pop into Harrods every day for a loaf of bread?

Ride around on an open top double decker bus every day looking at the sights?

So they can sit in endless traffic jams?

Maybe its the crime levels that is the big attraction?

A lot of these ex-player clowns who claim ‘everybody’ wants to play for a London club, never even played for a London club themselves! The likes of Troy Deeney, Gabby Agbonlahor and so on. Emile Heskey played for Leicester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Villa, Wigan, Bolton and Newcastle (Jets!). Why did he choose those over all the London options???

The thing as well, is that those who play for London clubs, don’t even live in London, or very few of them do.

In the main they live in easy proximity to their club’s training ground, which in almost every case is well outside of London. In the case of Arsenal, their training ground is in Hertfordshire, North of London, 18 miles from The Emirates. How long in traffic would it take to drive there and back from the centre of London to Arsenal’s London Colney training ground every day???

The truth is that the vast majority of players go to clubs for all the usual reasons of wages, ambition, chances of success (as well as the quality of life where they’ll live).

With the wages players earn these days, then if Newcastle United players, or their wives/partners/family, want to have a trip to London, they could hire a private plane and the journey time is only 40 minutes from Newcastle to London, in a helicopter around 80 minutes – less time that a 90 minutes match!
