FC Barcelona have their eye on Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sporting CP striker has been continuously linked to a move to Old Trafford, especially since his former manager Ruben Amorim took up the reins at United.
It has previously been reported that the Red Devils are confident that they can win the race for the red-hot Swedish goalscorer who has banged in 34 goals this season and provided seven assists in all competitions.
United can allegedly sign the striker for just £60 million in the summer and there was a report earlier this week that suggested Amorim’s side already had a deal in place to land Gyokeres in the next transfer window.
Catalan outlet Sport report to the contrary however and state that a move to United is not a foregone conclusion as Barcelona do retain an interest in the player this summer.
The newspaper claims that despite Robert Lewandowski renewing his deal for next season, Barca will still be in the market for a new striker.
“And one of them is Viktor Gyokeres, the striker who is surprising in Europe” Sport says. “The Blaugrana club would have everything in their favour to be able to sign him this summer.”
Such factors in their favour are the “great relations” with Sporting, the 50% sell on clause they have for Trincao and that the Portuguese club retain an interest in Vitor Roque, who is currently on loan at Real Betis.
Nonetheless, it is mentioned that there is not a consensus within the Barcelona board as some are unsure of making a move for the Swede.
Alexander Isak is said to be a more popular option but he would certainly be a lot more expensive than Gyokeres, who reportedly has an agreement with Sporting to leave for a set fee this summer.
The newspaper finishes by claiming it “is now or never for Gyokeres” to Barca from an economic perspective and that there are “many variables” such as the interest of numerous Premier League clubs.
If the Swede is the player United have decided to pursue for the number nine spot, they will be banking heavily on his relationship with Amorim to ward off the interest of one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
