Tomas Soucek admitted that it would be fantastic to finish above rivals Spurs this season.

Although that is a given, but considering the season that West Ham have endured, the fact we are currently level on points with the north London club .. and Manchester United for that matter, it does make a rather amusing scenario for Hammers fans.

Soucek was on hand to score one of our two goals to beat relegation-certainties Leicester City and jokingly admitted that the task this season now is to finish above Spurs.

“We knew that we needed to improve our consistency,” the Czech international said to the clubs Official Website. “Before, sometimes we won a game, but then had a very bad game afterwards.

“So, we needed consistency, and that’s what we got from the first minute. The first half was especially good – we controlled the game, and we could have scored even more goals. In the second half, things slowed down, but 2-0, and six points from the last two games, is a great result.

“We have two games to go until the international break, and the table is quite difficult, but a target for us now is to try and finish above Tottenham!”

The Hammers midfielder celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday in style, as he now gets ready to enjoy the occasion with his family.

“It’s a great way to celebrate, and I look forward to celebrating my birthday more with my family tomorrow,” added Soucek. “They didn’t come tonight because it was a late game, but I’m excited to see my two daughters and my wife because they said they’re planning something, and they are the most important thing to me.”
