WSL fans will have been looking forward to Chelsea’s top-of-the-table clash with Manchester United next weekend, but it has been officially called off at the last minute.
After the Women’s Champions League draw was completed on Friday, UEFA announced on Saturday that Chelsea’s opening Group B fixture will be at home to Real Madrid on Tuesday, 8 October.
That left just two days between their scheduled fixture with Manchester United at Kingsmeadow next Sunday.
Subsequently, the WSL blockbuster has been postponed, with the league citing “player welfare” as the reason for its decision.
The problem for clubs and the FA is that tickets have already sold out and SKY have agreed to televise the clash in the UK.
