Bruno Génésio has warned his Lille OSC squad not to be satisfied with their previous good results in the Champions League ahead of tonight’s visit to Borussia Dortmund.

Les Dogues have been one of the more welcome surprises of the competition as they’ve thoroughly earned their reputation as giant killers. The Ligue 1 side stunned Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, and held Juventus to a draw, on course to an automatic berth into the Round of 16.

However, Génésio believes that they cannot simply rest on their laurels if they have any hope of finding a way past last year’s finalists. He stated in the pre-match press conference, “It’s true that in the 12 matches we’ve played since the start of the competition we feel this desire to refuse defeat, to go for a victory, and I think that’s what’s made us strong.”

He continued, “But I often say that you need other qualities, you of course need technical qualities, tactical qualities, as well as athletic qualities to succeed in doing what we’ve done. Now we also have to, I believe, forget a little of what we’ve done, because what’s important in football is what happens next.”

Lille alongside Paris Saint-Germain are the only two remaining French teams in the competition, despite all four entrants managing to make it into the knockout rounds. AS Monaco were eliminated by Benfica, while PSG saw to the end of Stade Brestois’ run.
