Former Manchester United left back Alvaro Carreras is reportedly open to a return to Old Trafford.
The Spaniard joined United’s academy from Real Madrid in 2020 and put in numerous impressive performances for the youth team.
He had loan spells at Preston North End, Granada and SL Benfica before he was sold this summer to the Portuguese giants.
Carreras has had an incredible season so far where he has started to make a name for himself on the European stage after some fine performances in the Champions League, most recently against FC Barcelona.
The 21 year old has been linked with a sensational return to United as they desperately need a left wing back for Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
Social media commentator Sam C, who is widely understood to have contacts in the club, has now claimed on X that Carreras would be prepared to make a return to United should they activate his buy-back option.
“Alvaro Fernandez open to Manchester United return, as exclusively revealed yesterday,” he said.
The Ferrol native has a £16 million buy-back clause in his contract which would make a deal much cheaper for United than any other club should they wish to sign him back from Benfica.
United continue to make a push for Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu but as the window draws to a close and the Italians continue to refuse to bend on the price, the Spanish under-21 international could become a more realistic option.
He has played 31 times this season for the Eagles, scoring three goals and making four assists in all competitions.
His fine form this season has also drawn interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
With the transfer window due to close in a week on the 3rd February, United fans will be desperate to see a new left wing-back addition, be that Dorgu or Fernandez Carreras.
