Iconic former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo has announced his retirement from the game this week following a stellar career across various clubs and leagues.
Across just one solitary season at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League title-winning campaign of 2013/14 under Manuel Pellegrini, Negredo managed an outstanding season en route to the English top-flight crown.
The success in the Premier League was also joined by a triumph in the League Cup as Manchester City defeated Sunderland in a comeback win at Wembley Stadium during the back-end of the season.
Having made 49 appearances across all competitions during his one season at Manchester City, Negredo certainly made his impact by scoring an outstanding 23 goals and adding a further six assists to that tally.
And rounding off a stellar career throughout the professional game that has seen Alvaro Negredo feature in English football, Spain, Turkey, and the UAE, the now-39 year-old has called time on his work on the field.
In a heartfelt post across his social media channels on Thursday afternoon, Negredo announced his retirement from football accompanied by a short video of himself hanging up his boots for the final time.
With the tail-end of his Manchester City career brought to an abrupt halt through a foot injury, Alvaro Negredo signed a loan deal with Valencia, which included an obligatory clause to buy at the end of the campaign for around €27 million.
The former Spain international would return to English football just three years later as he arrived on a temporary switch to Middlesbrough, facing off against Manchester City during Pep Guardiola’s first season at the Etihad Stadium.
Negredo would also go on to play for Besiktas in Turkey, Al-Nasr in the United Arab Emirates, Cadiz in Spain, before retiring as a striker for Real Valladolid.
