Gasperini Presented Huge Demands to Take Roma Job

Gian Piero Gasperini is still in the running for the Roma bench even though Claudio Ranieri publicly ruled him out. The contacts between the parties are ongoing. However, the Atalanta boss has posed stiff conditions that complicate his appointment, Il Messaggero informs.
The manager would like to speak directly with the Friedkin family that owns the team to better understand the project and the size of the investments they plan to make. After a lavish summer, the Giallorossi might not spend that much in the upcoming one, as their gaffer implied recently.
Moreover, Gasperini asked Roma to part ways with a few veterans to have a younger and more energetic squad that would better fit his philosophy. Mats Hummels, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Artem Dovbyk, Leandro Paredes, and even Paulo Dybala are on the list. All those exits would drastically reduce the payroll. However, they’d have to be replaced appropriately afterward.
He’d restart from Mile Svilar, Angelino, Manu Koné, Niccolò Pisilli, Evan N’Dicka, and Zeki Celik. He’d also consider Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, Devyne Resch, Tommaso Baldanzi, and Tammy Abraham, who will likely return from Milan.
The hefty requests slowed down the talks. Other candidates like Maurizio Sarri, Stefano Pioli, and Massimiliano Allegri are regaining steam.
If those are really the demands to leave his perch, it’d explain why no team has been able to lure him away from Atalanta, where he occasionally clashes with the front office but gets his wishes most of the time, and they have gotten used to reloading after big departures. The overhaul would have to be too massive and expensive to be a realistic possibility.
